How would you describe the mood of this latest collection?
Sophisticated, chic and suitably festive!
What are your favourite pieces from the collection?
I think the tulle dresses are some of the best pieces that we’ve ever crafted. They encapsulate my dream dress, are perfect for Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties and are guaranteed to make you feel truly special.
I absolutely love the tweed pencil dress too. Like so many, the run up to Christmas is always my busiest time of year so I wanted to create a dress that combined my love for the countryside and traditional aesthetics, partnered with a touch of power dressing.
How did the process of designing such decadent occasion pieces differ from normal?
It was so important to me that if we were going to go all out and use tulle to create dresses with volume, they HAD to be flattering and comfortable too. After all, there’s nothing worse than a dress that looks good but feels itchy on! With that in mind, we worked with the seamstress to ensure that the dresses have structure, cut off at the most flattering points and are lined to ensure that they’re comfortable to wear too.
The white shirt is a true “Lydia Millen signature”, why do you think it has such an important place in the wardrobe?
Because of its versatility. We’ve really upped the drama with this collection’s white shirt - it’s so theatrical and demands attention - but it’s still a timeless classic and can be worn in so many ways. Personally, I’d wear this with leather trousers and boots for the perfect date night outfit with Ali. That being said, it would look great tucked into a pencil skirt too.
What newness will you be bringing into your wardrobe for spring?
The weather in spring can be temperamental so for me, newness comes in the form of lighter colours and delicate prints. I always make sure I have a trench coat or jacket close by too.
